Any Mountain Donates $10,950 to Nonprofit
Donation Will support Urban Teens on Big City Mountaineers Wilderness Outings
Denver, Colo. - Any Mountain, a leading Bay Area retailer focused on outdoor pursuits, has raised almost $11,000 for Big City Mountaineers, a non-profit whose mission is to "enhance the lives of under-resourced urban teens through transformative outdoor experiences." The sizable donation is enough to provide a pair of hiking boots and other essential gear to each teen on all of BCM's 2010 weeklong wilderness expeditions-the teenagers typically have no clothing or equipment appropriate for backpacking.
All donated gear from Any Mountain finds a home. Gear will be used by BCM teens on their week-long expeditions or repurposed to other needy organizations in our communities such as the Interfaith Homeless Network of San Leandro.
"Our friends at Any Mountain understand how life changing the outdoors can be to city kids who've barely left their urban neighborhoods," said Syd Jones executive director of Big City Mountaineers. "The partnership and passion of the Any Mountain team, and the generosity of their loyal customers, are going to improve the lives of the inner city teens in our programs."
Big City Mountaineers will deliver 50 wilderness expeditions in summer 2010, in California, Colorado, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and the Pacific Northwest, providing outdoor experiences for teens from the San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, Portland, Denver, Colorado Springs, Minneapolis and Chicago.
"In the last four years Any Mountain has directed all of our efforts to support Big City Mountaineers and their effort to get Bay Area and other urban teens outdoors," said Bruno Gotzmer, regional manager of Any Mountain. "We try to make a positive impact in our community and what better way then helping teens in our own towns experience the great outdoors, so clearly a passion of ours. We are proud to be affiliated with such a positive organization."
